Face to face with a container ship in Het Portaal van Vlaanderen
Come and join the fun in the interactive Visitors Centre at the heart of the Terneuzen Locks.
A trip to Terneuzen Locks starts with a visit to the interactive Information Centre and can be followed by a guided tour, or perhaps you prefer to explore on your own. Depending on the time of year, you might choose to take a boat trip on the canal.
The lock complex forms an essential link between the Westerschelde and the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, one of the busiest canals in Europe. Almost 70,000 ships and boats pass through here annually. Approximately 250 companies are located within the Canal Zone, accounting for 20% of the employment in Zeeland. The port is in a constant state of development and fulfils an important international role, as you will see in our Information Centre.
Het Portaal van Vlaanderen provides you with a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes and is particularly suitable for adults, young people and children aged 10 and upwards.
After a busy day learning all about the lock complex, the Information Centre is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a drink or a snack. Sitting on the patio, you can almost reach out and touch the ships as they pass by.
